Event Details

Course Title: Annual Ethics and Fraud Day (8 CPE)

Synopsis: On behalf of the IIA Baltimore Chapter, various speakers with significant subject matter expertise will provide a full day of fraud and ethics training (4 CPE for Ethics / 4 CPE for Fraud).

Training Overview:

Professional Ethics: A Preventive Maintenance Approach (4 CPE for Ethics)

This won’t be a review of the ethics code, case studies, or case law! Instead, it will be a unique program designed to help assure that you and your entire organization are able to more easily “walk the talk” of great ethics. This often-humorous and highly interactive program will show us ethics risks we never even knew we had and what can be done right now to make sure those risks don’t turn into costly ethical and legal problems on the job.

Ethics and fun aren’t words you normally hear in the same sentence. However, Dr. Christopher Bauer has been making professional ethics both straightforward and fun for international audiences for more than 25 years. He will present ethics differently than you have probably ever experienced them before. The tone will be conversational and the ideas immediately applicable. You will leave with easy, practical ideas and tools to reduce your risk for ethics difficulties while simultaneously reducing the risk of your colleagues, coworkers and entire organizations.

Dr. Bauer publishes a “Weekly Ethics Thought” which is available at no charge through his website (www.BauerEthicsSeminars.com) and the latest of his book, “Better Ethics NOW: How to Avoid the Ethics Disaster You Never Saw Coming” has been a business ethics “Top Seller” on Amazon.com.

White Collar Crime and Managing Fraud Risk (2 CPE)

Scott Moritz, a Managing Director with Protiviti will present on White Collar Crime and managing fraud risk. Mr Mortiz has 30 years of investigative and regulatory compliance experience working with a variety of organizations, government and regulatory agencies to identify, triage, investigate and remediate a wide variety of risks and complex financial crimes.

With extensive experience investigating transnational crime, corruption and money laundering, Mr. Moritz  is widely regarded as a leading authority in the evaluation, design, remediation, implementation and administration of corporate compliance programs/ codes of conduct and in the establishment, training and oversight of the investigative protocols carried out by financial intelligence, corporate security and internal audit units. He innovated the use of risk scoring and enabling technologies in an ethics & compliance context to identify, investigate and remediate high risk commercial relationships and case manage overall compliance processes and has participated in the strategic design and implementation of some of the world's leading ethics & compliance programs.

Detection of Fraud Schemes (2 CPE)

David Hilton, Director of Forensic Advisory with KPMG will provide training on fraud detection schemes. This is an interactive 2 hour training that provides participants with an overview of fraud theory and mitigation.  Various scenarios, will give the participants the opportunities to brainstorm and apply their knowledge of fraud schemes to identify risk areas, internal controls, mitigating factors and suggested responses related to several scenarios and business areas.

Target Audience:  This course is intended for anyone needing Ethics as part of their CPA certification requirement in Maryland or anyone interested in preventing/detecting fraud and corruption in their organization.
