Annie & The Beekeepers, with opener Mike Laureanno, March 25
Sat, March 25, 2017, 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM EDT
Like a porch swing on a warm summer night, Annie & The Beekeepers manage to be simultaneously comfortable and thrilling. The Boston-based, acoustic alternative folk group, led by Cape Cod native Annie Lynch, will be the main act at 8 p.m. at the Rose Garden Coffeehouse on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Opening the show will be Fall River’s own Mike Laureanno.
Beginning her love of live music after eavesdropping on rehearsals of the Cape Cod Little Fiddlers, Lynch relentlessly begged her parents for a violin and squeaked her way through childhood lessons. She credits the music of Joni Mitchell with opening up her ears, heart, and voice. By the age of 14 she began to write original material for guitar and voice.
Relocating from Cape Cod to New York, Lynch refined her Americana/Folk sound, earning comparisons to Neko Case, Dawn Landes, and Gillian Welch. She collaborated with the likes of Grammy-nominated producer-engineer Jack Gauthier on her self-titled debut album, which received rave reviews. That album, as well as subsequent releases, is still regularly aired on Boston radio and several national stations.
Backed by a group who became known as The Beekeepers, Lynch released the EP “Squid Hell Sessions” and toured nationally. Annie and The Beekepers have graced the stages of venues such as the Bowery Ballroom, Town Hall, the Berklee Performance Center and the Ryman Auditorium. They have performed at festivals such as SXSW, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Boston Folk Festival, and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion. They have shared the stage with Josh Ritter, Justin Townes Earle, David Wax Museum, Joe Pug, Dr. Dog’s Scott McMicken and The Low Anthem.
While the songs performed by the quartet originated as Lynch’s folk tunes, the music has evolved and expanded with rich arrangements for upright bass, cello, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and the occasional saw solo. Annie Lynch and the Beekeepers perform strong, passionate and, most importantly, honest music with poetic lyrical content and unique layered harmonies.
Opening for Annie & The Beekeepers is Fall River’s Mike Laureanno, a folk balladeer who was a finalist in the Rose Garden’s Performing Songwriter Contest in 2014.
Doors open for the 8 pm show at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $16 and may be purchased at www.rosegardenfolk.com. Tickets are also available at the door for $20.
