Event description

Description

Animals are born with the skills and drive to spend the whole day scavenging, foraging, and hunting for their food. They have strong drives determined by their evolutionary ecology, like the urge to investigate new scents and the thrill of the chase for prey.

The chance to engage in species-appropriate activities and enjoy environmental comforts is integral to the health of all animals, but especially in a shelter setting. Animals with better health and behavior are faster to be adopted. Be a part of quicker adoptions for shelter animals by joining PIN's Animal Enrichment program!

At our Animal Enrichment Training, you'll learn more about the logistics of our main program tenets: preparing enriched feeding for dogs, and creating predatory sequence enrichment and hiding boxes for cats. Animal Enrichment is ideal for anyone who likes working with their hands: every day at PIN is a Kong-stuffing, DIY-cat-toy-making party! And aspiring architects are invited to exercise their full creative abilities constructing and decorating cardboard cat hiding boxes.

Because it does not entail the risks associated with direct contact with animals, PIN's Animal Enrichment program excitedly welcomes passionate volunteers ages 9 and up (volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Sign up today to protect the health of shelter animals while they wait for their forever homes!
