ABOUT THIS SERIES

Growing your personal wealth and fueling female-founder success

Pittsburgh could and should be a top city for women entrepreneurs. The necessary ecosystem exists: innovation, funding, accelerators, universities, etc. But research shows that men receive 9 times more equity financing for their companies than women. Increasing the pool of angels willing to invest in women-led companies will improve the odds of success for female founders. Next Act Fund was established in an effort to close this gender gap. With over 60 accredited investors, mostly women, Next Act Fund is committed to fueling the ambitions, innovations and life-changing ideas of many brilliant women by allowing women to invest in women. Women-focused investment groups, like Next Act Fund, have changed the culture for female entrepreneurs as well as opened the door for women who are interested in growing their personal wealth, but are stymied by these commonly cited barriers:

  • Not being asked to get involved

  • Not knowing what angel investing is

  • Not knowing other angel investors

  • Never seeing deal flow

  • Acting more conservatively with regard to making large investments

Becoming an investor in a sector traditionally dominated by men requires learning a new set of tools to understand the process and feeling confident asking for a seat at the table. With this educational series, NAF aims to help women gain those skills and serve as a set of role models moving forward. We'll help you explore the areas you should know more about before entering the angel investor world, plus give you a taste of what a pitch looks like.
