Moderator and Panelist:

Ron Weissman of Band of Angles was vice president of strategy and corporate marketing for Verity, a global leader in corporate information retrieval and knowledge management.

During his tenure at Verity, the executive team earned the large company “turnaround of the year” award (1999) from the Turnaround Management Association; Verity gained dominant market share and saw its market capitalization grow from $50 million to more than $1.5 billion.

Prior to Verity, Ron spent more than five years at NeXT Computer, where he managed European and corporate marketing. In addition to his work in Silicon Valley, he ran academic computing at Brown University and at the University of Maryland, where he was Associate Professor of History. He is the author of two books on the history of Florence during the Renaissance.

Karim Nurani is the Executive Director and Principal at Bay Angels.

His expertise and business development skills have led to a network of diverse, bi-coastal business relationships. For over 20 years, from Boston to San Francisco, Nurani has led individual companies in educating employees and facilitating more efficient business operations. He is sales-oriented and driven to increase industry assets and profits at every level of operation. His mission at Bay Angels is to continue building a strong community of investors and entrepreneurs who want to foster technological innovations to make an impact, make a difference, make a profit.

Gary Jinks is the founder and Managing Director of South Valley Angels, as well as a board member for the Morgan Hill Community Partnership, a non-profit corporation focused on small business education.

Since 2004 Gary has been the owner and President of GLJ Group providing business and product development consulting and services. During this time Gary has generated over $300M in new business for his clients and developed products ranging from circuit boards, B2B eCommerce solutions to combat vehicles. In 2008 Gary received the coveted BAE Systems Chairman’s award for process innovation and management, rarely given to a consultant.

Jackie Magno manages deal flow for the Silicon Valley chapter of Golden Seeds.

Jackie oversees the local applications from entrepreneurs, open office hours, screening and forum meetings. She also works extensively to support Silicon Valley deal leaders. Jackie held executive positions in a number of Fortune 500 companies, including IBM, GE, and Novell.  She also has entrepreneurial experience running her own consulting business. Jackie has a BS and an MBA from Purdue University.

If you are an entrepreneur in a startup that is currently seeking capital and would like to present your best two-minute (time limit is strictly enforced) elevator pitch to a panel of Angels, you must follow the instructions below. Pitching slots go quickly, so sign up early!

To Present a Pitch

  • You must register in advance;
  • Presenters are assigned on a first-come basis;
  • Slot availability is confirmed automatically during registration;
  • The maximum number of presenters is 10, plus
  • 4 "no guarantee" Standby slots.

Your pitch is two minutes, timing is strictly enforced, no handouts, cards, demos or samples allowed during or immediately after your presentation.

Your pitch is followed by 4 minutes of Q&A by the panel; and 4 minutes of non-rebuttal feedback from each panelist. Only one person from the company may present the (2) minute pitch to the investors and answer questions from the panel.

Entrepreneurs not yet ready to pitch or unable to reserve a pitch slot are encouraged register and attend. By listening to the pitches, the Q&A, and the critiques you learn the key points required to develop an effective pitch that investors value. You also have the opportunity to network with investors person to person at the event.

If you are an investor, come and listen to the entrepreneur's pitches--you never know where you'll find your next deal. Learn how other investors rate the pitches; which Angels pass and for what reasons; and which entrepreneurs other Angels want to talk to ASAP.

If you are interested in serving on a Pitch or Workshop panel, please contact Valerie Badgett, Program Manager.
