“Aneesh Chopra has been the leader of the movement to use technology to revolutionize government in the same way technology has been used to transform other aspects of our lives. With inspiring stories and clear insights, he provides a playbook for open innovations that work both in the public and the private sector.” —Walter Isaacson

“For years, Aneesh Chopra has been at the forefront of integrating modern technologies from the private sector into government, to the benefit of all Americans. With Innovative State, he takes us on the journey that led to where we are today and shows us how far we have to go.”
—Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman, Google

Aneesh Chopra, the country’s first Chief Technology Officer, provides an essential guide for how we can create a government that is more transparent, participatory, and collaborative, one that harnesses the full potential of today’s technologies and is defined not by its size but by its smarts.

Over the last twenty years, our economy and our society—from how we shop and pay our bills to how we communicate—have been completely revolutionized by technology. As Chopra shows in INNOVATIVE STATE, once it became clear how much technology would change America, a movement arose around the idea that these same technologies could reshape and improve government. But the idea languished, and while the private sector innovated, our government stalled, trapped in a model designed for earlier eras.

Throughout his career Chopra has been deeply involved with governmental open innovation. In 2009, he was appointed by President Obama as the first Chief Technology Officer of the United States federal government and tasked with leading the administration’s initiatives for a more open, tech-savvy government. In INNOVATIVE STATE, Chopra synthesizes his firsthand experience and his interviews with tech leaders and policy experts to create the playbook for government to establish a new paradigm for the Internet era and tackle our country’s most challenging problems, from economic development to affordable health care. By fostering innovation and encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can achieve more with less and reshape our approach for the twenty-first century.

Appointed by Mayor Garcetti Peter Marx as the city's first Chief Innovation Technology Officer, key part of Mayor Garcetti's back to basics agenda. Marx oversees the implementation of new tools and technologies across L.A. city government to better solve problems for residents and make City Hall work more efficiently and effectively. In addition, he partners with L.A.'s growing tech industry to deploy innovative technology and promote local job creation.

Before joining the Mayor's Office, Marx served as the Vice President of Business Development at Qualcomm Labs, Inc., commercializing a variety of emerging technologies. Previously, Marx was the Vice President of the Technology and Digital Studio at Mattel, Inc. where the company received a Webby award, the highest award for excellence in online content. Marx managed Analog Protocol, a media-technology consultancy; served as the Chief Technology Officer for Vivendi-Universal Games and Vice President of Emerging Technologies for Universal Studios; and held engineering and producer positions at Electronic Arts. Early in his career, he served as an engineer on a variety of telemedicine, digital video, radiological imaging, and biomedicine applications for UCLA and 3M Company.

Ticket sales are fina, no refunds. Should a schedule change necessetite cancelling, ticket may be applied to another morning Live Talks Business Forum.
