ANDREA CASARRUBIOS’ ALBUM RELEASE: CAMINANTE

Featuring Emily Daggett Smith on violin and Andrea Casarrubios on cello

Emily Daggett Smith and Andrea Casarrubios perform Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Cello alongside Casarrubios' own work, La Libertad se levantó llorando (Liberty rose weeping) from her new album Caminante.

La Libertad se levantó llorando (2017) is a reflective piece for violin, cello and pre-recorded voice. The original text in Spanish is by Pablo Neruda, an excerpt about the Spanish Civil War. Andrea Casarrubios used his words as resonance and inspiration for this piece: a cry for the never-ending fight for justice and liberty that, in different guises, exists in every society on earth. The words serve as perspective in time and history, and the music is filled with the strength and vulnerability of those words.

Doors open at 6:30pm, show at 7:00pm.

Because of the generous support of our followers, Metropolis Ensemble is thrilled to offer our pop-up venue at 1 Rivington as a place for new projects and works of music to take shape, at little to no cost to our artists. Select artists are given the opportunity not only to share finished works, but to use this platform to craft ideas into tangible realities.
