Babyproof Your Relationship!

How will a baby change your relationship? Research indicates 1/2 to 2/3 of couples experience a sharp decline in relationship satisfaction in the first years of baby's life. The good news? We know what couples who thrive across the transition do differently!

"And Then There Were 3" is a 2-part series (6 hours total) adapted from the Gottman Institute's Bringing Baby Home program (a 12-hour, research-based AND research-tested workshop) that equips couples with critical insights and practical tools to make the transition to parenthood with confidence. While hospitals and other community groups offer excellent classes on baby care basics, breastfeeding, and CPR, few (if any) spend more than a few minutes explaining how babies shake up relationships and what couples need to know to maintain high levels of relationship satisfaction as they grow their family.

During this workshop, couples will learn how to:

  • strengthen their friendship and connect meaningfully after baby
  • constructively manage stress and conflict
  • improve the way they communicate and compromise
  • identify postpartum anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues and respond appropriately
  • meet their children's emotional and psychological needs
  • develop co-parenting strategies and ensure quality involvement for both parents
  • create shared meaning and build a family legacy

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Couples trying to conceive or adopt
  • Couples pregnant with/expecting their first child

NOTE: Materials and snacks are included in the registration fee, and three early bird spaces are available for each class. To ensure a professional learning environment and to minimize potential distractions, infants and children are not permitted in the workshop.

Where will the workshop be held?

The exact address will be emailed to registered couples two weeks in advance, along with other reminders. The workshop location will be in Allen, TX.

What time should we arrive?

Couples are encouraged to arrive about 10 minutes early for each session to allow ample time to park, use the restrooms, and settle in. Sessions begin promptly at 1 p.m.

Can we bring our child/children to the class?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate children at these workshops. Couples are encouraged to attend when they are trying to conceive/adopt or while they are expecting (ideally second trimester), so they can give their full attention to the course material. The goal is for couples to carve out time to really engage in the content together over the series to help them approach the transition to parenthood with more tools, knowledge, and confidence!

What if we miss a session?

This workshop is offered as a 2-part series, so we will cover new content each session. If you miss a session, there are no "make-ups." However, the course materials are yours to keep and review outside of class. The facilitator will also provide a broad outline of topics covered each session so you know what was covered and what's coming up next.

What is provided, and what should we bring?

All materials required for the class will be there for you...just come eager to learn, try out some new tools, and have a great time with your partner! Dress casually and comfortably. Some snacks will be provided at each meeting, but you are welcome to bring in outside drinks or snacks, if you'd like.

What should we expect?

This is an interactive class for couples making the transition to parenthood. The workshop facilitator will lead demos and share best practices, and there will be opportunities to interact with the facilitator and other couples. You will also have time to engage in activities and discussions privately with your partner.

What is the cancellation policy?

All cancellations made at least two full weeks in advance will receive refunds, less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued within two weeks of the workshop. Enrollment minimums are required for a workshop to "make." If the facilitator has to cancel a workshop due to low enrollment, or other unforeseen circumstances, couples will receive full refunds.
