Description

The UC Davis Women's Resources and Research Center presents And the Category Is: Blackness, Queerness, and Living Out Loud in celebration and acknowledgement of Black Futures Month.

Black Futures Month is a shared vision of the trajectory for Black life on the UC Davis campus and beyond. During the month of February, we are committed to remembering, celebrating, and learning from Black History. It is a time to acknowledge that Blackness is marginalized globally and work internally to center the marginalized identities within communities for true liberation from the systemic bonds that bind us. History shows that Black people are more than what happened to them; on this campus, we are committed to continuing Black Excellence in the near and distant futures. The theme to look to the Future in celebration of African/African-American/Afro-Caribbean/Afro-Latinx/Afro/Black Diasporic peoples, embraces a mission of inclusion and to enhance the visibility of the diaspora at the intersections.

Join us for our powerful Black Futures Month keynote address with Model, Actress, Author, Advocate and Activist Dominique Jackson, star of the major new television hit series POSE on FX. Closing out Black Futures Month, Dominique Jackson will share her story, empower us to go beyond binaries, and celebrate the brilliance of our Blackness and Queerness at the intersections.

Doors will open at 1pm. Event is open to UC Davis community and greater community.
