The Ancient Faith Writing and Podcasting Conference is a weekend professional development and fellowship opportunity for Orthodox Christians who want to enrich their creative work or break into a new media field. The Conference is open to published and unpublished attendees. If you want to be here, we want you to be here!
The Conference will provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity to network and collaborate with well-known Orthodox authors, podcasters, editors, and publishers, and to gain inside perspective on the Orthodox media world. Guests will enjoy time for fellowship in a beautiful and peaceful environment. Community building and spiritual refreshment are important goals of this gathering.
The Conference is committed to mentoring the upcoming generation of Orthodox writers and podcasters! College students are warmly welcomed.
SPEAKERS: Our guest speakers this year include Fr. Tom Soroka, Dr. Albert Rossi, Bill Marianes, Caroline Langston, Dr. Nicole Roccas, Bev Cooke, and Nathan Hoppe.
SHARED ROOMS: The Conference staff are NOT able to make arrangments for you to share a room with another guest. Reservations are for one full private room per ticket. If you choose to bring your SPOUSE, please purchase the "Private room, married couple" ticket, which provides for one full private room (with double beds) and meals for two. Please do not try to use the married couple ticket for a roommate, as Antiochian Village will charge you a different rate if you are not married to the person sharing your room.
AIRPORT: Most guests traveling to Antiochian Village by air choose to fly into the Pittsburgh International Airport. The Conference Center is approximately 2 hours from this airport, and a chartered bus is available to those who register in advance. The Latrobe Airport is closer to Antiochian Village, but also smaller, and flights there are sometimes more expensive. The cost of using the bus is $85 per person round trip for groups of 5 or more, and YOU MUST RESERVE A SEAT WITH US IN ADVANCE. PLEASE CONTACT STAFF BEFORE PURCHASING YOUR AIRLINE TICKET. There will be two shuttles on the day the conference begins and two shuttles on the day it ends. Flights must be arranged accordingly. If you are not able to use one of these two shuttles, you will need to make your own arrangements. Bus tickets for individuals, not groups, cost twice as much.
WRITERS: AFP editors Katherine Hyde (adult books) and Jane Meyer (children's/YA books) will be offering a limited number of brief individual manuscript consultations before and during the conference. This is intended as an opportunity to get professional feedback on your writing, not as a pitch session. If meeting with Katherine, you may submit an outline, synopsis, and/or a 10-page writing excerpt for critique. If meeting with Jane: For a chapter book or longer, you may submit an outline, synopsis, and/or a 10-page writing excerpt for critique. For a picture book, please submit the entire manuscript. Sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and manuscripts must be submitted by May 8, 2017. If interested, please email Melinda Johnson at email@example.com no later than April 30, including your expected arrival time.
