Prayer, politics, baptism, Russian poetry, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Trinity, inter-faith relations, the sacraments … former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has something profound and new to say about all of these topics. Engage with one of the most brilliant theologians of our time as he demonstrates how to make the connections between our faith and the world in which we live.

This is a four-week course, meeting on Thursday evenings, from 6:30 – 9 p.m, on January 11, January 18, January 25 and February 1. Classes will be taught by the Rev. Catriona Laing and the Rev. Dr. Patricia Lyons, Episcopal clergy serving in the Diocese of Washington. Each weekly session will include a lecture, audio and video excerpts from Williams himself, along with extensive class participation and shared study.



Registration: Early Bird Special ends December 15, afterwards course fee increases to $55.
Registration closes 1/4 or when courses fills (25 participants).



What texts will we use?
The main text for the course is Being Christian: Baptism, Bible, Eucharist and Prayer (2014), by Rowan Williams. Other texts that will appear in the lectures include:

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The series is on-campus at Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA, 22304.

  • Directions: For travel directions go to the VTS website at www.vts.edu/directions

  • Metro: The nearest Metro stop is the King Street Metro about 3 miles away in Old Town Alexandria. It is on the yellow and blue metro lines. The seminary is on the AT2 Alexandria DASH bus line, which services the King Street metro station. A DASH bus ride is around $1.60. A one-way cab ride will cost around $10.00.

What about parking?
Visitors may park in any parking space designated for visitors or in any undesignated space on the VTS campus. No parking pass is required. Handicap accessible parking spots are available throughout the campus including near the Chapel.

Are refunds available?
If you are unable to attend, contact us (lte@vts.edu) and we can work out a a refund or transfer your registration to someone else.

Full refunds are available up to two weeks (December 28) before the workshop.
A cancellation fee of $10.00 will be applied for cancellations received by January 4.
No refund will be issued for cancellations received after January 4.
