Description

The Kairos Blanket Exercise at Ancaster Village Church

An experiential teaching tool to share the historic & contemporary relationship between Indigenous & non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Thursday, May 9. 7pm-930pm. Ancaster Village Church.

For adults and mature students.

The City of Ancaster has a rich and vibrant history. "Established 1793." But there were people living here long before then. Did you know Wilson Street was once an Indigenous trail? Have you ever wondered why for many people who are 35 and older, you didn't sit across from Indigenous peoples in public school? We, as residents of Ancaster, are asking you to consider joining us in learning about the history of Turtle Island (Canada). Through this powerful, experiential, and educational event, the Kairos Blanket Exercise tells the story of the relationship between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples.

Several years ago the Government of Canada began the Truth & Reconciliation Commission, focusing on many things but certainly highlighting the atrocities of the Residential School System in Canada. The work of the commission is complete, but the work of reconciliation continues. Ancaster Village Church is hosting this exercise and inviting the community of Ancaster to participate.

Please note that participating in the event requires removing your shoes.

Although this event is being hosted by Ancaster Village Church, it is not a "religious" event. AVC is interested in helping the community of Ancaster engage in an important conversation. It's about learning our shared history and moving forward into a better, reconciled, future.
