Schedule of events:
Day 1: Saturday, December 3
0900 - 0945 “The Anatomy of a Curling Shot” (off-ice presentation) Explanation and illustration for both curlers and coaches of what it takes to make a curling shot from a technical perspective.
0945 - 1100 Skill Development: Delivery (on-ice presentation) Using video analysis, each participant will see the delivery he/she has brought to the clinic. Using information from the 0900 session, curlers and coaches will learn to correct the delivery to begin finding that serviceable curling delivery.
1100 – 1215 “What Are You Thinking?” (off-ice presentation) This presentation picks up where on-ice skill development leaves off. The mental aspect of delivering a curling shot is as important as the acquired skill itself. The participants will use mental skills they already have to support and protect the curling delivery they’ve worked so hard to achieve and coaches will learn how to support and enhance those skills.
1215 – 1300 Lunch (with Q’s & A’s for Team Clark)
1300 – 1400 “Team Dynamics” (off-ice presentation) Using real time examples from experiences with Team Clark plus a PowerPoint presentation, there will be many aspects of team dynamics that each participant will be able to use with their team and teams they coach.
1400 – 1530 Skill Development: Throwing Weight (on-ice presentation) This session will be devoted to weight control, the most important skill in the game. Use will be made of laser timing devices for this session. Coaches will learn how to work with their athletes on weight control.
1530 – 1600 “Rules and Procedures” (off-ice presentation) Common errors and misunderstandings of rules of the game will be covered in light of using the rules to maximize what the rules allow you to do in a game.
1600 – 1700 Skill Development: Sweeping (on-ice presentation) This session will be devoted to brushing and its importance to the successful completion of a curling shot.
DAY 2: Sunday, December 4
0900 – 1100 “Strategy & Tactics Workshop” (off-ice presentation) This workshop will empower the participants to discover its “strategic DNA” and make decisions based upon a variety of factors pertinent to game conditions.
1100 – 1200 Skill Development: Test it out (on ice) This session will be an opportunity for the participants to see their new and much simpler curling delivery.
1200 – 1230 Lunch (more Q’s & A’s with Team Clark)
1230 – 1400 “Game Time” As the name implies, this session will see the participants play an abbreviated game using the skills they have developed throughout the clinic. Coaches can either participate or discuss technical aspects and strategy behind the glass.
1400 – 1500 Q’s & A’s and elective. A topic to be decided by the participants. What do you want to learn?
1500 - 1600 “The Cash Bonspiel” This is a fun activity to conclude the clinic.
