Event description

Description

This two-day meditation and Dharma talk retreat, led by Buddhist teacher Anam Thubten, will be held at the Grace Center on the Kohala Institute campus. Parking is available on site.

The true joy of being a human comes when we know how to live life fully. The secret to that is not through external activities, but through embracing each moment, no matter what situation we are facing. Loving our own life requires loving the present moment. Sometimes we may have to embrace the present moment with courage when life situations become uncomfortable. Other times, we may need to open our heart to recognize that such moments are filled with blessings and goodness

Straight-back chairs will be provided. Alternatively, participants may bring their own cushions for floor seating.

Please arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to have time to check in and get settled before Anam Thubten enters the hall at 10:00am each day. If you will be driving through Waimea to reach the retreat location, be aware that Waimea's annual Cherry Blossom Festival is also scheduled for Saturday, February 2 and will create some traffic conjestion in Waimea along Mamalahoa Highway during the day.

Generous breaks for lunch on your own will be offered both Saturday and Sunday. A list of nearby restaurants will be provided at the retreat site. Participants should feel free to bring their own lunches to enjoy on the Kohala Institute grounds.

Those wishing to stay overnight at the retreat site may reserve a cabin or dorm room directly with the Kohala Institute facility at 808-889-5151. Please inform the Kohala Institute staff that you are attending the Anam Thubten retreat.

Accomodations are also available at the Kohala Village Inn & Hub kohalavillagehub.com 808-889-0404 or local accomodations available through VRBO.com or airbnb.com (Use "Kohala" region for searching either VRBO or airbnb). Please email the locally-based organizers at the email address below to inquire about other more distant accomodations.

Pre-registration for this 2-day retreat is required, along with a commitment to attend both days of this weekend retreat. As the Dharmata Foundation notes, a retreat experience can provide various experiences: some joyful, some difficult; some pleasant or unpleasant, depending on our own inner processes. It is a process of transformation. Everyone is expected to make a commitment to stay for the whole retreat, even if it seems difficult at moments, trusting in this process. Once a retreat begins, a sacred container is formed, made up of each person's good intentions to be fully present. Leaving the retreat early energetically breaks that container for others. Our mutual presence supports each other.

If you prefer to register directly with the locally-based organizers (instead of using Evenbrite) please email: anamthubten.bigisland2019.info@gmail.com Include "Retreat Registration" in your subject line.
