Event description

Description

AN OUTRAGE is a documentary film about lynching in the American South. Filmed on location at lynching sites in six states and bolstered by the memories and perspectives of decendents activists and scholars this unusual historical documentary educates even as it serves as a hub for action to remember a long hidden past. The film highlights the oft-hidden history of lynching and its resonance today. Jonathan Holloway, Dean of Yale College and an historian of the Jim Crow era, notes in the film, “I promise you, once you start taking in the ‘unofficial histories,’ the official history doesn’t look quite so accurate anymore.”

AN OUTRAGE is directed, edited and produced by Hannah Ayers and Lance Warren. The filmakers will attend for a Q&A, joined by Dr. Peniel E. Joseph, Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin.
