Three plays. Three authors. One play festival. The Naropa University MFA Theater Ensemble proudly presents An Oresteia adapted by Anne Carson- Agamemnon by Aiskhylos, Elektra by Sophokles, and Orestes by Euripides. The Saturday Festival Pass features all three plays, including a snack & dinner in between them. The short plays (approx. 1 hour each) can be seen individually during weekday and Saturday times. To purchase individual tickets, go to this link - https://an-oresteia-naropa.eventbrite.com
The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, November 2 - Agamemnon at 2:00 p.m., Elektra at 4:00 p.m., Orestes at 7:00 p.m. - deadline to purchase tickets is Thursday, October 31.
Saturday, November 9 - Agamemnon at 2:00 p.m., Elektra at 4:00 p.m., Orestes at 7:00 p.m. - deadline to purchase tickets is Thursday, November 7.
Commencing in the aftermath of the Trojan War, the plays chronicle the cycle of bloodshed in the family of Agamemnon, done in the name of retribution and religion. Viewers are invited to take a journey through a contemporary lens across decades, and its effect on the human psyche. Directed by MFA Contemporary Performance Chair Lorenzo Gonzalez (The Comedy of Errors, Dead Man's Cell Phone Fuente Ovejuna), An Oresteia explores the three central questions posed by Greek tragedy scholars Carson, Critchley, and Pethybridge and asks us to examine our own rage, grief, and internal war.
PLEASE NOTE: FESTIVAL PASSES ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IN ADVANCE AND MUST BE PURCHASED BY THE THURSDAY BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE. THEY WILL NOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.
