An Introduction to working with wild-wood
Event Information
About this Event
Covid 19 - To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience all participants will be provided with their own set of sanitised tools. We will also provide hand sanitiser & wipes. Making use of our indoor and outdoor space, including our new outdoor shelter, we have ample space to ensure appropriate social distancing. Participants may choose to wear a face covering, but they will not be mandatory, due to the physical activity involved and the other precautions in place.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in learning how to take a piece of wild wood found on a beach, in a woodland or elsewhere, and giving it a new life. No previous experience is necessary, just a love of wood and a curious nature!
Minimum age 18 years, however please ask if you are interested in a younger person attending.
The course will cover the following:
- where to find wildwood
- how to assess its potential
- initial cleaning and preparation
- basic tool selection and safety and how to set up a basic work station
- deciding what to make
- shaping, finishing and presentation.
Cost includes all materials. You will have a large collection of wildwood to choose from, and we can also explore the surrounding woodland for interesting pieces, but what you actually make on the day will be down to your imagination (plus a little input form me where needed) and the time available and you may need to finish off at home. This course is more about developing skills and knowledge rather than everyone making a particular product. You are welcome to bring any wildwood you may have knocking about and we can take a look. You never know, it may hide some cool woody secrets!
