Seminar Objective and Overview
As the demands and expectations on reliability engineering continue to grow, and amidst the “faster-better-cheaper” corporate mantra and the ever-increasing complexity of today’s products, the profession must adapt and evolve its processes and methods to meet these demands while at the same time minimizing the program costs and maximizing the return on investment (ROI) of each reliability engineering activity. To achieve this, we must move away from today’s discrete, sequential and self-contained activity mindset, towards a more holistic approach that synthesizes the program’s activities into a single continuous self-improving process. Doing so provides a structured continuity that eliminates costly activity overlaps and enables organizations to leverage work and knowledge from the combined whole, thus maximizing the overall benefit and associated ROI. This one-day seminar outlines shortcomings in current processes and presents a new DFR-focused approach that addresses the current gaps and limitations. It illustrates the new process using a step-by-step example for a new product, starting with the concept phase and progressing through design, manufacturing and field deployment. The example also utilizes ReliaSoft’s new Synthesis Platform to facilitate the activities. This combination will provide the attendee with an excellent overview of both the process and the platform/tools designed to enable and facilitate the process.

Pantelis Vassiliou founded ReliaSoft in 1992 while in the Ph.D. program in Reliability Engineering at the University of Arizona. Over the past two decades, he has overseen the research and development of new tools, theories and approaches for advancing reliability methodologies, and he has personally taught, lectured and/or acted as a consultant for thousands of reliability engineers and hundreds of companies in over forty countries. This broad exposure, and exclusive inside access into how companies apply reliability engineering, led him to a seven-year pursuit of a better way to implement a Design for Reliability program that synthesizes activities into a continuous self-improving process. The culmination of this pursuit was both the formulation of the new DFR process and the creation of the Synthesis Platform that provides the IT infrastructure, framework and tools needed to successfully implement the process.
