An Introduction to Design for Beginners and Non-Designers
Tue 8 November 2016, 12:00 – 14:00 GMT
This session will be a way for beginners and non-designers to get comfortable with the basic principles of design (colour, typography, layout and psychology) and pick up the intangible skills that are hard to learn alone, but essential in coming up with fresh ideas, working with other creatives and designing with human behaviour in mind.
The main topics I'll be covering are...
Fundamental design principles and mindset
A walkthrough of the design process from start to finish to show how a designer comes up with and implements concepts, and a review of existing designs and products to see how colour, typography, layout and psychology are used in real life and how you can apply these principles to your own work
How to get started as a beginner
The most common mistakes that beginners make and how to avoid them, how to find inspiration and what equipment and software to use when you're starting out
How to get better at design
How to tell if you are making progress, advice on how best to improve your skills and ways to find opportunities to practise design
This workshop will be tailored to people with no or little previous design experience. Whether you are looking to learn a new skill, want to get a job/change role/start your own company, or are just interested in design, you are all very welcome to come!
To join, all you need to do is register and bring yourself. Limited spaces available!
