Ezra F. Vogel is the Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus at Harvard and former Director of Harvard’s Fairbank Center for East Asian Research and the Asia Center. He is an astute long-time student of Japan and China. His most recent book, Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China (2011), provides an authoritative and nuanced portrait of China’s great reform leader.
