An evening with The Plunk and Phunk Orchestra (Debra Dobkin & Mark "Pocket" Goldberg), Carey Appel, Art Podell, and The Enzymes with the Active Ingredients.
An LA native, Carey has been songwriting for just under three years, having released two albums to critical acclaim with a new EP on the way. This soulful storyteller is reminiscent of the late Eva Casssidy; her rich vocals narrating some of our innermost secrets fused with heartwarming honesty. An advocate for children’s charities, proceeds from her music help those in need.
The Enzymes and the Active Ingredients.
The Enzymes are an L.A. based rock and roll band who are going on an acoustic journey for this “Live at the Library” show. You saw keyboardist and vocalist Murphy Dunne in the Blues Brothers Band. Bassist Rob Lewine, now a highly respected photographer, spent the late 1960s and early 1970s in a number of bands, including the ILLINOIS SPEED PRESS (Columbia Records. Along the way he jammed with Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Buddy Miles and Jimi Hendrix. Guitarist Larry Treadwell is a Grammy-nominated composer and musician who has worked with Thomas Dolby, Cyndi Lauper, The Pointer Sisters, Kelly Clarkson, Earth Wind and Fire, and The Rolling Stones. Drummer Howard Greene received a degree in orchestral percussion from Indiana University and is the drummer in The Groundlings Theater house band. Vocalists Phyllis Bailey-Brooks and Roxanne Mayweather are the Active Ingredients and have been singing together since childhood. They have each toured the world as vocalists for a variety of artists.
The Plunk and Phunk Orchestra has been working as a rhythm section for many years and can be heard on numerous recordings and in concert with many artists. They are co-producers on the last two critically acclaimed Mark "Pocket" Goldberg CDs. Debra Dobkin (Vocals & Drums) has toured and recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne, and many others. Mark “Pocket” Goldberg (Vocals & Upright Bass) has toured and recorded with Mick Fleetwood, Canned Heat, Willie Dixon, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and many others.
