An Evening with the Blue Stragglers
Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM (EDT)
Sparta Township, NJ
Blue Stragglers ...those unique, solitary, and unclassifiable star-like objects that are found in distant star clusters of the universe. Their size and solitude pin them as rather old stars. Nevertheless, they insist on behaving like very young ones, defying cosmic theory by burning both brighter and bluer than their galactic neighbors.
This band of veteran musicians from New Jersey, New York, and Maryland has long been composing original songs that bring together the lyrical perspectives of varied life experience with the musical joy and exuberance from which such perspective grows. What characterizes The Blue Stragglers most is the variety of influences that feed both their performances and compositions. Elements of jazz, rock, pop, alternative, and Broadway evoke the best of American music, even while reaching “where no man has gone before!” …as a true Blue Straggler should.
Here they are joined by some accomplished friends (incliuding Thierry Arpino), as they rediscover some of their own eclectic songs, and explore choice standards from the American Songbook.
