Description

You are cordially invited to....

An Evening with Soluq, a special one-night event intended to proudly share Soluq Dance, an emerging and growing dance performance company, and the captivating work they perform with new, discerning, and vibrant audiences and supporters. Through the direction of Artistic Director Kevin Clark, Soluq has carved out a niche as a unique voice in New York dance, and is expanding to new stages, galleries, and museums with movement that offers bold, tranformative performance.

We would love to share our work with you as Soluq prepares to embark on new adventures and meet new audiences, and to give opportunities for you and yours to support Soluq as we serve the greater community by continuing to create electrifying new work and partner with innovative artists and ideas that can provoke and promote social change. Enjoy a complimentary cocktail, glass of wine, and some tasty hors d'oeuvres, mingle with the Dancers, and allow us to take you on a journey through our some intimate samplings of our performance repertory. After the showing, there will time and space to discuss the works shown, share your feelings with us, and to offer institutional support as you enjoy another complimentary beverage.

Soluq will be showcasing -

DUST - an intimate, powerful duet surrounding loss, vulnerablity and the ties guiding reconciliation. Emotionally dense and viscerally raw, this duet is inspired and guided by research, interviews, and literature surrounding the experiences of survivors of The Holocaust, and is excerpted from it's larger home in the work ASH.

SOLO - Three dancers perform in a loop three times, in three different modalities of space. With each repetition of the loop, the roles rotate and new combinations take on the characters of the work, exposing new dynamics and perspective of the performers within the narrative. Premised on constantly exploring innovative movement, technical prowess, and embodying human connection, Solo disrupts expectations of performance: beginning and end become irrelevant, any combination of performers might emerge and yet, a story hopes to surface.

NUNC DIMITTIS - Nunc Dimittis, a staple work for Soluq, explores a woman’s capacity to be simultaneously powerful and to be broken, to shift between personhood and object-hood at will or by force. A trio of women explore the machination of the body as both subject and object, based on the idea of humanness as a commodified entity. Nunc Dimittus discusses the concept of femininity as custodian for beauty, and the weight that accompanies that. The dance is composed in collaboration with and inspired by it's performers, and Auguste Rodin's "Damned Women".

CIRCLE RETURN - Circle Return is excerpted from ShadowLand, Soluq's current work-in-progress, and this will be the very first showing of this work. This never-before-seen work is Soluq's boldest work to date, diving into the thick underbelly of the American suburban wasteland of the 1990's through the counter-culture music it birthed; grunge, metal, and punk. It relates to and embodies the schism between the Ego’s desire to control the world around it and the Id’s urgency to destroy that which it cannot control. At once highly aggressive and highly primal in it's phyisicality, it's efforts run parallel to the music as it embodies a riotous progressivism; both ordered and intentional and simultaneously raw and wild.
