Kalisha Buckhanon is the author of the recently published novel Solemn and the titles Upstate and Conception, a winner of book awards from the American Library Association and Friends of American Writers, a recipient of fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council and the Mellon/Mays Foundation. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sisters in Crime, an alumnus of University of Chicago’s English Department, and the MFA in creative writing program of The New School in New York City.

Greene, the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College builds on the tradition and legacy of the National Black Writers Conference and serves as a voice, mecca, and resource for black writers and the general public to study the literature of people from the African Diaspora. It is the only Center devoted to this in the country.
