When & Where
Care To Share
Care To Share coordinates assistance to low-income Beaverton-area families and individuals who seek emergency food and utility help. Our goal is to help people through crisis situations and to connect them with other community services if additional support is needed.
Families or individuals call one phone number at our office to request help. We work with our food distribution partners to know what days, times and how many individuals they can serve. Care To Share uses a computerized scheduling system to match those in need with our food partner's availability and capacity. We provide the client a specific, convenient appointment time at a food pickup location that is expecting them. Clients typically receive a 5-to-7-day supply of food based on the number of adults and children in the household.
Last year Care To Share provided intake, qualification and scheduling services for food and utility assistance for 19,124 households, a 3.7% increase in total number of helps -vs- the previous year with no additional staff. Food assistance helps alone increased by 6.5% last year.
Care To Share is unique in that no other agencies in the Beaverton area coordinate food assistance for multiple food distribution partners (food closets, food pantries) through a single call intake, qualification and scheduling system. Funding will be used to pay for a portion of our service program staff. We serve a large (and growing) number of people requiring emergency food service with a very small staff and a number of volunteers.
