Event description

Description

Join us for a lecture by Dutch industrial designer Hella Jongerius, who will illustrate her approach to design by sharing examples of her projects and research over her long career. Her work combines the traditional with the contemporary and the newest technologies with age-old craft techniques. She has created products for Maharam, Danskina, IKEA and KLM, among others, many of which can be found in the permanent collections of museums such as MoMA, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

She aims to create products with individual character by including craft elements in the industrial production process. Graduating from Eindhoven’s Design Academy in the Netherlands in the early 1990s, she is from a generation of designers who explored the emergence of conceptual design.

In 1993, Jongerius founded the Jongeriuslab studio and in recent years she has focused on research projects that resulted in exhibitions such as Breathing Color (solo exhibition at the Design Museum, London, 2017) and Interlace (solo exhibition at Lafayette Anticipations, Paris, 2019).

Please note that the event has moved to RISD Auditorium.
