Overlie’s evocative vocals and piano are perfectly paired with Taylor’s strings... almost like an old heartland classic.
As Augmeanted, cousins Geoffrey Taylor & Mary Overlie invite listeners closer to the power of living music with their distinctive #classicalrock vibe, crafting tales and tunes cut free by the saw waves of their sound. In all they do, they aim to mean it when they bring it, hence that extra 'a' in their name.
When Geoffrey spiderwalks his 5-string fiddle and Mary sings through her heart and keys, listeners might find themselves feathered by the wings of the crescent moonrise, embraced by the concert hall’s symphonic swirl, or rib-tickled by Appalachian fireflies.
Augmeanted’s journey to the DCHS stage tonight started, in part, on the DCHS stage. When Mary was a pip and people still knew her as Suzie with boinging pigtails, she sat for countless Community Concerts, mesmerized by the stories and sounds unfolding in this Carnegie Hall of her home town. She did her very best in LaDonna’s spring dance recitals and Ron Conrad’s theater productions. She came to hear what George Winston meant when he said, "Miles City is my melodies.” sitting in its quiet dark hearing his Colors for the first time.
Join Mary & Geoffrey as they release the sounds Mary first heard here back home. This concert is first stop of an album release tour throughout Montana this June.
Proceeds from tonight's concert will be gifted to the music department at DCHS, to help support the next generation of musicians inspired under these starry lights. Tickets are $7, or $10 at the door.
About Augmeanted
Though Augmeanted is a new musical collaboration for them, both Geoffrey and Mary are established musicians. Geoffrey Taylor is a multi-genre violinist, recording artist, composer, and educator based in Missoula. As a performing artist Geoffrey collaborates with Sam Miltich & the Clearwater Hot Club and leads the swing septet Night Blooming Jasmine. Geoffrey has also organized concerts in Missoula with world-class musicians, including Gaelynn Lea. Geoffrey has performed regularly with the Helena Symphony Orchestra and many other symphonies across the Rocky Mountain West. As a composer, he recently released his12 Fantasias for 5 String Fiddle. Mary, who leads a double life as a songwriter and teacher, is the creative spark for the band Mudsong, based in Bemidji, Minnesota (mudsong.net).
For those among us who love strings and classically-influenced projects, this album is a must!
Augmeanted’s debut album was released June 21, 2022 and was chosen as one of Pitch Perfect’s Top Albums for September 2022.
Life, Twice takes its name from the Anais Nin quote, “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospection.” The 10-track recording, produced at Supple Studios, is a mix of lyrically-driven meditations on moments that leave us speechless, and violin-driven improvisations that say what’s impossible to say. You can listen to the album by streaming it on their website or through Bandcamp.
About the Concert
Geoffrey & Mary will play their entire Catching Snowflakes Suite, as well as a selection of the vocal tunes, potentially previewing some newer tunes or improvising something inspired by the evening.
