Event description

Description

Join us for an evening focused on Sexuality!

We will be talking about all things sex and our speakers will share stories on a wide range of topics, representing different aspects of sexuality.

We will have beer and wine available by donation so bring some coins or small bills :) and proceeds will benefit PACE Society. The PACE Society is located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. They offer low-barrier programming and support in order to serve Vancouver’s most marginalized populations; people who often fall through the cracks due to ineligibility for services that require a fixed address or drug and alcohol abstinence can access our services. In this respect, PACE is on the frontline of support for those in Vancouver who need it most. They are made up of dedicated, compassionate individuals who are committed to providing Sex Worker-led and driven programs and services to Sex Workers.

Their mission is to promote safer working conditions by reducing harm and isolation through education and support. PACE believes that Sex Workers are valuable members of our community and are entitled to the same rights as all other human beings.

As always, we will be collecting in-kind donations of new and gently used toiletries for the DTES Women's Centre. Please bring what you can!

We have three fantastic speakers on deck for the evening:

Cassandra Hesse is a Masters student at the University of British Columbia and an advocate for the sexual health and well being of others. Her research and expertise focuses specifically on controversial human sexuality topics and developmental behavioural concepts. Primarily, this includes the influence of Internet pornography on young people, the implications of technology on relationships and sexual intercourse, the subculture of exotic dance, and a variety of research issues focusing on gender and sexuality. She is currently working on her Masters thesis which will be her fifth publication entitiled: The Influence of Pornography on Adolescents Perceptions of Sexuality: A Downward Trajectory. Her dream is to promote happiness through positive sexual experiences, and to inspire the uninspired.

Hailey Heartless self identifies as a transsexual professional dominatrix and activist kinkster. She has been an activist for over 10 years and her scope of work includes social justice, labour, feminism, LGBT, sex positivity, trans rights, and sex worker rights. As a sex positive feminist, the focus of her work is in transformative justice, boundaries and consent. Hailey's presentation will focus on 'Hooking up Like a Dominatrix'. She will talk about how dominant women often take on the role of building good consent in the kink community and how we can apply the lessons they've learned to our own communities and casual encounters. @SadistHailey

Jessie Nelson is a connector at their core. Fuelled by curiosity and conversation, Jessie’s purpose is to live vulnerably and authentically as themselves and to share their lived experience in order to create space and a platform for others. Jessie’s lived experience as gender fluid has lead them to their purpose of creating conversation and awareness around gender identity and owning both your masculine and feminine energies. You can find Jessie in a few places around Vancouver; as the Community Connector for Kokomo, educating at lululemon West 4th and, most recently, building their community consulting business KITH+common.
