Event description

Description

An Evening in Damascus takes you on an elegant trip down the Silk Road, visiting the beauty of Syria in the Heart of Vancouver, leaving the memories of the civil war behind and bringing people together for a good cause.

For the third year in a row, this event is organized and hosted by Danny Ramadan, a proud gay Syrian refugee, author of "The Clothesline Swing" and the Grand Marshall of the Vancouver Gay Pride Parade 2016, aims to gather funds for two sponsorship groups supporting Syrians lesbians to join our community here in Vancouver.

Both groups are supported and part of the work done by Rainbow Refugee Society, an organization that works tirelessly on helping inland and privately sponsored LGBTQ-identified refugees.

The event is hosted The Roundhouse Centre, adding a beautiful backdrop to what is sure to be one of the best and most glamourous Pride events this year.

This year we partner with Tayybeh: A Celebration of Syrian Cusinine. The local Vancouverite group of Syrian refugee women coming together to cook amazing authentic Syrian appetizers for you and your guests.

For entertainment, Khadiejah, a Middle Eastern belly dancer, will roam the room and dance to some beautiful Arabic songs. Danny Ramadan will also do some storytelling.

All the funds raised during the event will be divided between The Divine Road - a group sponsoring two Syrian women from the Middle East to come to Canada, and Journey to Canada - a group supporting two newly arriving sisters from Syria as they integrate into the Canadian society.

Come and grab a glass of wine, listen to some awesome tunes and enjoy the company of other celebrating Pride, and gathering for a good cause.

Tickets are sold for an Early Bird Price of $30 until midday June 10th, tickets between June 11th and July 28th are sold for the full price of $40.
