Join Mapy Chavez-Askins, Executive Director of Alcanzando, Inc. for an evening of education and connection.
Helping our children gain effective communication skills can be a challenge. Children in the Autism Spectrum differ greatly from one another, but by definition, all present difficulties in their ability to communicate and interact with others.
How communication is affected also differs greatly. People on one end of the spectrum may not have means of communication and some on the other end may be on par for their age, however lack conversation skills and appear awkward in their attempts to socialize.
This evening will begin with hors d'oeuvre and soft drinks (a cash bar is available) and mingling with families and educators in the field of Autism.
Mapy Chavez-Askins will give a presentation on proven communication strategies including:
- Key variables that we can take advantage of to promote communicative intent
- Facilitating the use of language to communicate wants/needs, to share information, as well as to interact with family and friends.
- Review methods and strategies for addressing these very different communication needs, from the nonverbal and beginning communicator to the highly verbal individual on the Autism Spectrum or Asperger Syndrome.
