Event description

Description

Israeli Stage hosts author Seth Anziska for a reading and an important discussion of his just-released book Preventing Palestine.

Anziska, an American-Jewish academic who was raised in a modern orthodox community and studied at a Yeshiva in the West Bank, offers intriguing and fresh perspectives on the Palestinian question.

  • What American Jews tend to miss during their travels to Israel

  • Surprising ways in which the conflict has affected Israeli society and culture

  • Hidden mechanisms that create tension between culture, policy, and politics

Whether from the US, Egypt, Israel or the Palestine Liberation Organization itself, Anziska explores the deeper roots of our contemporary political condition, with empathy and a nuanced understanding of Israel’s internal dynamics and regional context.

"This splendid book by a young American Jewish scholar is the product of an early emotional and intellectual transformation...His combination of original research and personal fearlessness has produced one of the most compelling works of political and diplomatic history I have ever read...Anziska has made a major contribution to the history of this conflict." – Charles Kaiser, The Guardian

“Anziska displays an admirable understanding of the Palestinian plight, and his fair and equitable treatment is laudable and encouraging.” – Kirkus Review

“In Israel’s animated political discourse, the Camp David Accords are universally acclaimed while the Oslo Accords are bitterly debated between Left and Right. In this perceptive, thoroughly researched book, Seth Anziska reveals the strong connection between the two agreements and the extent to which Oslo drew on Camp David’s autonomy plan. Preventing Palestine is mandatory reading for understanding the complexities and ironies of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” Itamar Rabinovich, author of Yitzhak Rabin: Soldier, Leader, Statesman
