12-2:30: The Psoas: Understanding & Releasing the Muscle of the Soul
The Psoas muscle is the deepest muscle of the human body affecting our structural balance, muscular integrity, flexibility, strength, range of motion, joint mobility, and organ functioning. Additionally, the psoas acts as a body brain, and many mystics considered it the "muscle of the soul" composed of bio-intelligent tissue that acts as a hinge between earth and spirit. As Liz Koch puts it, the psoas “literally embodies our deepest urge for survival, and more profoundly, our elemental desire to flourish.”
An overly contracted psoas has been the culprit of many physical & emotional ailments, most dangerously by holding us in a patterning of "Fight or Flight" creating back, pelvic and hip problems, organ disfunction, as well as triggering unnecessary fear and anxiety. A relaxed psoas is the mark of freedom in body & spirit, helping to soften us into the flow of play and creativity.
In this workshop we will locate and learn the function of the psoas: from the anatomical physical and emotional perspective. We'll practice several stretches that can be done daily to maintain a healthy psoas; and a powerful healing and relaxing technique for releasing the psoas, and the lifetimes of tension located there.

3:30-5:30pm: Mind-Body Alignment in the Yoga Postures: Effort & Ease
The yoga postures serve as miniature lifetimes squeezed into a shape.
Patanjali's Yoga Sutra 2.46, states, “sthira sukham asanam.” translates as, “all postures should be both stable and comfortable.”
In this workshop, we will examine alignment of the Spine and Major Synovial Joints, to keep our body safe while practicing and fully enjoy the fruits of our labor in the moment of NOW. We will use our understanding of alignment to discuss and practice techniques on how to simulatneously dance with effort and ease in all our postures, what they offer us, and more importantly, in our lives.

Ease-ing techniques; Breath, The Relaxation Response and Intention
The Five Major Movements of the Spine
Emotional relationship to our Synovial Joints and the effects of postures
