Event description

Description

Society of the Evening Star and The Witches' Almanac Ltd is pleased to host an afternoon of lectures with UK-based occult scholar and owner of the esteemed Atlantis Bookshop in London, Geraldine Beskin.

Geraldine will present 4 hour-long lectures on the following topics:

DION FORTUNE:THEOSOPHIST
Who was Dion Fortune and how did she get involved with her important work? It took two imaginary flowers and a little Indian trade Unionist to set her on the path!

DARK SIDE OF CHRISTMAS.
Jesus, Krampus, cataclysms, and magic thunder. An odd list, but these and more are intimately associated with Christmas still.

ETTELLIA AND HIS CARDS
How a hairdresser changed fortune telling forever.

MANLY P HALL THE MURDERED MAGICIAN
Manly Hall was born in 1900 and did more to keep the people of America spiritual than anyone else during the last century. He lectured extensively and wrote books, the most notable being The Secret Teachings of All Ages, set up the Philosophical Research Centre, was eventually murdered and yet, thanks to youtube, has a growing number of people who appreciate his wisdom.
This is the story of his long life, his terrible death and the legacy he gave us.

About Geraldine:
Geraldine Beskin and her daughter own the oldest Independent esoteric shop in the world. The Atlantis Bookshop was set up by magicians, for magicians, and several notable authors and practitioners for the last 97 years have shopped with three generations of the family. Geraldine has lectured in America,
Australia and Europe as well as Glastonbury and other places in the UK. Her way through life was shaped when she saw Gerald Gardner as a girl and she has enduring interest in Aleister Crowley in his many guises - he was a customer after all! The Western Mysteries from the Golden Dawn through Dion Fortune, modern Witchcraft and beyond are her favourite places.

Geraldine's talks are scholarly but deliberately not dryly academic as she is far too opinionated to fit such a restrictive structure!

Cost: $15/lecture or $50 for the whole afternoon. Register using the eventbrite tickets below. Or contact info@sotes.org for more info.
