Description

The Civil Rights Movement: Looking Back, Marching Forward

Acclaimed civil rights icon John Lewis and co-authors writer Andrew Aydin and artist Nate Powell will share their journey in telling the story of the civil rights movement through Lewis’ eyes in the award-winning MARCH trilogy of graphic novels. Lewis is the last surviving speaker from the 1963 March on Washington and is now devoting himself to preserving the important lessons of the civil rights movement including nonviolent protest and speaking out against injustice for current and future generations of young people.

This is a free event, but will require tickets issued in advance on a first-come, first-served basis with more than half of the seats reserved for school students. The event will also include music and spoken words recalling this important period in our nation’s history.
