Event description

Description

What is market systems development, and how does it change how we work? How does it change how we engage, manage and learn?

Achieving sustainable impact at scale is the objective of most development projects. Inclusive market systems development is increasingly recognized as an effective means for achieving this objective. Over the last five years, ACDI/VOCA has been working to incorporate market systems approaches across our programming. On August 2, technical staff from our projects in Africa, Central America and Central Asia, as well as our affiliates Tanager and AV Ventures, will share challenges, successes and innovations in the pivot to a markets systems approach. Topics will include gender inclusion, multi-stage analysis and co-creation, adaptive management, engaging the private sector and catalyzing investment, monitoring, evaluation and learning. Margie Brand of EcoVentures International will facilitate the discussion and draw out lessons for future programming. Please join us to contribute to this conversation!

Continental breakfast will be provided. Space is limited, RSVP early!

About Us:

ACDI/VOCA is an economic development organization that fosters broad-based economic growth, raises living standards, and creates vibrant communities. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA has worked in 146 countries since 1963. Our expertise is in catalyzing investment, climate smart agriculture, empowerment & resilience, institutional strengthening, and market systems. ACDI/VOCA is a leader in the market system approach to international development. We analyze the larger market system and identify factors that constrain market actors from reaching their full potential. We share learning to promote market participation and financial inclusion of marginalized groups. Our partnerships with the private sector, governments, and other NGOs build the capacities of individuals and organizations to engage more competitively, creating strong local institutions that deliver meaningful services and support. We trigger systemic change in market relationships, norms, and policies to stimulate broad-based economic growth.

Tanager, an ACDI/VOCA affiliate, is an international nonprofit that connects people and partners to align interests, expand market access, and unlock the full potential of shared market opportunities that result in reliable supply chains, stable incomes, healthy families and resilient communities.

AV Ventures, an ACDI/VOCA for-profit subsidiary, is a global investment management and advisory company. AV Ventures intends to pilot, scale, and grow an impact investment funds that provide “missing middle” financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) worldwide.
