Event description
You’re invited to an exclusive private screening party of the feature film “Amplify Her” with previews of the animated motion comics series!

About this Event

Join us Pre-Rifflandia for an intimate screening of Amplify Her the feature documentary and Come early to watch a special sneak peek of two chapters of the not-yet-released motion comic series (cartoons!).

These chapters include AppleCat's "Masqaurade" and CloZee's "The Long Shore." Both animated shorts feature original music produced by artists in the films, and are animated by local Women in British Columbia.

OF NOTE: We have decided to throw this very special gathering as CloZee and AppleCat will be playing the Electric Avenue stage at Rifflandia the Saturday following this screening. So this screening is even more hype for those sets! A perfect combination.

About the Film

Part motion comic, part live action, “Amplify Her” is a documentary film, a graphic novel and an animated series that is sparking conversations and is selling out boutique events around the world.

Amplify Her follows the lives of seven female electronic dance music artists as they navigate the challenges of the music world and find their own unique voices. 26 tracks were produced by women in the film along with stunning comic-like artwork created by 14 female illustrators and animators.

Co-Director’s Nicole Sorochan and Ian MacKenzie created a dynamic storyworld in collaboration with over 30 women as an answer to the film’s question “what unique expression does the feminine have to offer our culture?”. The work is an example of what is possible when women get opportunities to express themselves both on screen and behind the camera.

About the Motion Comics

30 women gathered together to transform the women in the film into comic superheriones! The stories are the authentic voices of 3 women working in collaboration scored and voiced over by the the DJ's/producers themselves.

Chapter 2: MASQUERADE featuring APPLECAT

Runtime: 6:43

Backstage before a big performance, AppleCat begins to take inventory of her ‘masks’. Pulling them out of a drawer, she recalls the story of how each mask came about, and the purpose it served.

Chapter 3: THE LONG SHORE featuring CLOZEE

Chloé finds beats all around her. Inventing guitar riffs from her bedroom in Paris, she receives word that she has a 3-stop music tour booked in India. Will her music and style be translated by a new international audience?

Dress code: This film is all about authentic expression. Wear anything from the playa at burning man to the red carpet. Just be you!

What critics are saying:

“Halfway through Amplify Her, we arrive at Burning Man. The Temple at Burning Man, we’re told, is exactly what a person needs it to be at that given moment. The same could be said of the film.”

- Kate Wilson, Georgia Straight

“Be prepared for a highly personal adventure into the lives, studios, and bedrooms of these inspiring women.” - Little D, Betty and Kora

“My heart is richer, and so is my mp3 player.” - Chris Burlingame, The Sun Break
