Event Details

The Bangkok Photo School Assignment Workshop Weekend will provide photographers with the structure of a genuine travel magazine assignment. Working with a pre-defined Shot List, participants will be able to explore the local markets with a clear goal in mind. The weekend will include a discussion on editing selections.

This is a workshop suited for photographers who understand the basics and who wish to take their work to the next level by creating a cohesive body of work.

"Our aim is to educate, encourage and inspire."

How do we make the best of our photo opportunities? It's a question that all photographers will ask themselves sooner or later and this weekend workshop has been designed to create the conditions that a Travel Photographer on assignment for a travel magazine would encounter.

Amphawa Weekend Workshop

Mahachai Fishing Village

So if you've ever wanted a taste of what it might be like to shoot for National Geographic, this weekend will give you a flavour - but without the pressure and in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The group will meet early on Saturday morning when you will be given your "assignment" details, including a Shot List and Commission Guidelines, just the same as a real assignment.

We will take a minibus to Mahachai, a small fishing town where it's possible to photograph the fishing boats, the wholesale market trading and the street market.

Mahachai Fish Market

From there we will travel to Mae Khlong, where we hope to catch the unique sight of the train arriving through the local market. Traders will move their goods for a few minutes whilst the train comes through and moments after will replace everything - it's an unusual sight, great for a magazine article!

Amphawa Weekend Workshop

Mae Khlong Market

In the afternoon, we will travel to Amphawa, where you will be free to pursue your photographic project before we meet for dinner.

Amphawa Floating Market

On Sunday, we will return to one of the local markets, completing our assignments before heading back to Bangkok after lunch.

All transport, accommodation and food costs are included in the weekend workshop price.

FAQs

How many photographers will be on the workshop?

Due to the nature of this workshop, places are strictly limited to just six photographers.

What camera gear will I need?

This weekend is set-up to reflect the conditions that a travel photographer would find on assignment, so we recommend that you bring whatever gear you think you might need to complete the assignment. The minimum gear would be a DSLR or similar camera, a wide-angle lens and medium telephoto plus any fixed focal-length lenses that you have, plenty of spare memory cards and spare batteries. A tripod and a flash are optional. There will be plenty of room in our transport for your gear.

Is there an age limit for students?

Not really, we usually accept any students from 15 years of age upwards.

What will the accommodation be like?

We will stay at the Baan Amphawa Hotel. Each participant will have their own room.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, please bring your ticket with you, either printed or on a mobile device.

What about refreshments?

Refreshments will be provided throughout the weekend, including lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. There will be mineral water on our bus and the usual variety of street food available  in the markets we visit.

What is the refund policy?

If you are unable to attend then we ask for 14 days notice and we'll refund the cost of your registration. If you have to cancel your place within 14 days then we will still give a full refund, providing we are able to take a replacement registration before the class begins. No refunds are payable within 14 days of the workshop if we are unable to find a replacement to take your place.

Where can I find more information about your classes and workshops?
