Amnesia - Work-in-progress play by Ariel Luckey
Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 8:00 PM to 8:00 PM (AKDT)
Amnesia, a new interdisciplinary play by playwright/performer Ariel Luckey, reveals America’s forgotten immigrant roots and investigates the role of race at the border. A young Jew escapes a Russian police raid and flees for his life, immigrating to America and settling in Arizona. 123 years later, his great great grandson travels back to his childhood village and from there, to the site of an ICE raid in Phoenix, following ancestral memories he never knew he had. Layering theater, poetry and a live score of klezmer and Mexican folk music remixes, Amnesia asks what happens when we forget who we are and where we come from, when public policy is based on historical amnesia. Amnesia has been commissioned by La Peña Cultural Center with support from The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation 2012 Playwright Commissioning Award.
