Event description

Description

On Friday, November 22 in the Grand Hall of Rice University’s Memorial Center, AJC Houston will host America’s Table, a Thanksgiving themed breakfast event that brings together more than 300 individuals from diverse religious and ethnic communities within Houston to affirm the unity of our American experience, while also honoring our unique backgrounds and beginnings.

The event will feature a performance by Sarah Hobbs, the 2019 Texas Female Vocalist of the Year and Emanuelee Outspoken Bean, renowned performance poet and writer. Houston leaders, including HPD Police Chief Art Acevedo, Rice University’s Stephen Klineberg,Alison Leland, and Lyceum Global’s Anhlan Nguyen will share their and their family’s stories of coming to America.

We will also launch the Houston region’s “Community of Conscience”, a powerful group of leaders seeking to eradicate the hateful rhetoric that has poisoned our political discourse and spurred violence.

Clergy and influential leaders from a diverse array of religious and ethnic groups will present readings. Priests, pastors and preachers, imams, rabbis, ethnic and civic leaders will sit and eat together, reflecting on the values and humanity that bridge our communities. All are welcome. The entry fee is a donation of canned goods or dry food, being collected for the Houston Food Bank.

Please try to arrive by 8:30 AM, when breakfast will be served. Program will begin promptly at 9 AM.
