Americas Datafest Miami - An Immigration Hackathon

Do you write code? Are you a digital designer? Are you an immigration expert? Do you work with data? Are you a journalist who covers immigration?
Our Miami event will be held at Newsport , the amazing new home of Univision News and Fusion TV.
We expect about 50 participants for our one-day event, but the Datafest will also be taking place in more than 20 cities and 12 countries around the world. There will be food, prizes for the winning teams and beer at the conclusion of the event.

Morning Work Session: 10:30 am- 12:30pm

Participants will be invited to an off-site happy-hour after the event.
The event will focus on migration in the Americas with a goal of:
Contributing to the immigration debate in the US by analyzing and visualizing public data.
Building apps, websites and other tools for migrants, nonprofits that work with them, and researchers who study human flows in the Americas.
The hackathon is a great opportunity to:
apply your skills to new and interesting challenges
showcase your expertise
contribute to a good cause
connect with other like-minded people
The contest is fun, too: It offers a chance to compete with others, from Silicon Valley to Brazil, from Washington D.C. to Spain.
Participants can follow our list of challenges or of course work on their own ideas. Projects will focus on issues that are local, national, or international.
