Event description

Description

The United States is one of the youngest countries in the world at just a little more than two centuries old. Yet, Americans have sparked revolutions in an art form more ancient than written language: poetry. This three-part course will cover the major movements and poets of the Colonial and Antebellum period, the Civil War, Reconstruction and the Civil Rights era, and the late 20th century and contemporary periods. This course will be a chance to sample a little bit of everything from Emily Dickinson’s haiku-like mini-poems, Robert Frost’s iconic iambic tetrameter, William Carlos Williams’ image poems and even today’s poetry slam performance artists.

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
