American Legion Post 838 Flag Retirement Ceremony
Sun, June 4, 2017, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM PDT
Irvine's American Legion, Post 838 invites you to its First-Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony and Patriotic Concert at Col. Bill Barber Memorial Park on Sunday, June 4th at 6:30 pm.
Special guests, the All-American Boys Chorus, will hold a 1 hour patriotic fundraiser concert benefiting the post at the start of the event followed by the flag retirement ceremony at dusk.
Many Irvine residents have utilized the unserviceable flag drop to dispose of their personal flags. Now, the American Legion will retire these worn flags with a legal and proper ceremony.
"We are of the opinion that The American Legion’s Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags is a dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and to its symbolism. We therefore conclude that this ceremony is both legal and proper, and that it is an effective instrument for promoting enhanced respect for the U.S. flag." -The American Legion
