Event Details

There has been a lot of talk and media attention about how to address the dropout crisis in America. As an educator, we think you probably have something to say.

The Nine Network of Public Media is launching a national/local initiative to help communities work together to improve high school graduation rates. American Graduate: Let’s Make it Happen represents a five-year public media initiative bringing together educators, parents and youth, along with non-profit, civic and corporate entities—to impact dropout rates regionally and nationally.

The Nine Network is hosting a televised Teacher Town Hall, hosted by noted journalist Gwen Ifill of the PBS NewsHour. The Town Hall will focus on capturing your perspectives and ideas and amplifying your voice as a teacher. You work hard every day to help your students learn. What do you want the community to know about the successes and challenges of your work? We’re trying to generate understanding and engage the broader community in conversation and action around this important set of issues.

The Teacher Town Hall will be televised and streamed on the web. Excerpts will also be shown on the PBS NewsHour as part of the national American Graduate initiative.

In order to participate, you will need to:

Register for your ticket via the link above, and

Complete a survey at: In this survey, you’ll be asked to provide information that will help us focus the conversation. We also encourage you to share this invitation with your educator colleagues and encourage their participation.

Date:                 November 7, 2011. You will need to arrive at the station between 4:00 and 4:30 pm to enjoy a reception. Taping of the Town Hall will begin at 5:30 pm.Additional details will be available after you have registered.
