Join American Forests for the first-ever Forest Footnotes book series, a captivating look at the forests that surround us through the lens of three amazing authors. The second talk of the series is with Jill Jonnes, whose book "Urban Forests" was released in late 2016.

Book Summary

"Urban Forests" is a celebration of urban trees and the Americans — presidents, plant explorers, visionaries, citizen activists, scientists, nurserymen, and tree nerds — whose arboreal passions have shaped and ornamented the nation’s cities, from Jefferson’s day to the present.

Author Bio

In addition to “Urban Forests”, Jill Jonnes is the author of “Conquering Gotham” (2008), “Empires of Light” (2004), and “South Bronx Rising” (2002). She is the founder of the Baltimore Tree Trust. In fall 2011, she studied “Trees as Green Infrastructure” at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. Jonnes was also named a National Endowment for the Humanities scholar and has received several grants from the Ford Foundation. She lives in Baltimore, Md.

Busboys and Poets is located one block off the U Street Corridor and is accessible by Metro (Green/Yellow Lines at the U Street/African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo station; 15-minute walk from Dupont Circle station on the Red Line), Metrobus (52, 53, 54, 90, 92, 93, 96 and X3 lines), DC Circulator (Adams Morgan-Woodley Park-McPherson Square line) and Capital Bikeshare (dock at 14th and V).
