Event description

Description

Mental health is one of the leading causes of community disfunction. Healthy People Community uses the creative process of live art to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals suffering from mental health. Our approach is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps individuals to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and develop awareness.

Art therapy is an effective modality to use in the community, because it influences individuals who have suffered from mental health issues in the past to creatively construct their own story in safe and supported ways. This event in the past has assisted participants to gather information and develop a more comprehensive understanding of how art therapy can be used with children , adolescents , and adults.

American Culture will present an overview of art therapy, and will offer the opportunity for participants to discuss and experience the use and relevance of using art, and music to compat mental illness. It will begin with an understanding of what art therapy is, how it can be used and how different art materials may impact on what a individual is feeling.

To support this overview, individual testimonials on how art therapy context can help mental health ilness will be understood from a clinical perspective, and religious perspective. Throughout the day, the event will be supported by an emotional component where those in attendance will have a first hand experience of how art treatment has helped so many recover from Mental Health illnessess .
