Thank you for volunteering with America Needs You as a Career Coach! Career Coaches work with college students during Saturday sessions to build their professional skills and help them realize their career potential. Our New York program workshops take place in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Saturday Workshops:

Saturday workshops serve ANY's selective student Fellows who are all first-generation college students. Career Coaches work with Fellows on the day's curriculum and activities by serving as a substitute Mentor Coach when the Fellow's Mentor Coach is absent for the day or by offering additional professional perspectives to an existing Mentor Coach/Fellow pair. ANY curriculum covers all kinds of professional development topics from resume preparation and interview etiquette to giving and receiving feedback and managing up.

At workshops, Career Coaches typically participate in group or one-on-one work with Fellows; for example, writing and reviewing a cover letter or building a pros/cons list for deciding between two internships. Workshops are generally from 10am to 4pm. Career Coaches will expose students to their industries and prepare students to pursue internship/job opportunities by leading small group activities, networking, serving on panels, or giving industry presentations. We will send you a guide a few days beforehand with an overview of the event. Volunteers also attend a brief orientation on the day of the event.

If you have not completed the Interest & Skills Survey, please click here to do so before the workshop.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail Lyndsey.anderson@americaneedsyou.org.

You will receive an email on the Tuesday prior to each Saturday's workshop which will include location, start time, and additional pertinent information.

America Needs You (ANY)

ANY fights for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students. We do this by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development.

The ANY Fellows Program is an intensive two-year program for high-achieving, low-income, first-generation college students.  The program has four components:

  1. Intensive Career Development: ANY follows a best in class curriculum focused on professional skills, career exploration, college completion, and personal growth. The program provides 28 full-day workshops over the course of two years.

  2. One-on-One Mentorship: Each student (Fellow) is matched one-on-one with a mentor (Mentor Coach). These pairs complete 220 hours of mentoring over two years. Mentor Coaches provide industry insight and connections as well as help Fellows set goals and stay on track academically and professionally.

  3. Robust Networks: Fellows interact with thousands of diverse professionals through workshops, Career Days (on-site employer visits), and internship/job opportunities at companies. These opportunities allow Fellows to grow their professional, academic, and social networks.

  4. Holistic Support: ANY supports Fellows in overcoming personal and academic challenges, such as transfer support for Fellows enrolled in community college. The program also provides up to $2,000 in grants and in-kind contributions over the two years, including business attire.
