Description

Dr. Robert A. Leonard is Professor of Linguistics and head of the Graduate Program in Forensic Linguistics at Hofstra University, directs the Institute for Forensic Linguistics, Threat Assessment and Strategic Analysis, and leads the consulting firm Robert Leonard Associates.

The New Yorker magazine calls Leonard "one of the foremost language detectives in the country.”

Please join Institute Library members and host Jack Hitt for a conversation with Robert Friday, September 1, at 6:30pm. Doors open at 6:00. We’ll hear about forensic language, food semiotics, anthropology, and more.

Having spent Years solving famous murders through the analysis of language, Robert has worked as consultant to the FBI and intelligence agencies throughout the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom, training agents in the use of forensic linguistics in law enforcement, threat assessment, and counter-terrorism.

Amateur Hour, a series of the Institute Library created by Joshua Foer and Jack Hitt, explores the passions and pursuits of America's most inspiring fanatics, obsessives, tinkerers, and collectors.

This Amateur Hour is scheduled in conjunction with the closing of Evidence: Art and Facts upstairs in the Institute Library featuring a group of local and regional artists’ investigative projects in a variety of media (including dryer lint).

Complimentary light refreshments will be provided by Atticus Bookstore Cafe, and limited-edition, Design Monsters posters, signed by Robert Leonard and Jack Hitt, will be available for sale following the event.
