Join Alan Patricof, the “Grandfather” and Pioneer of Venture Capital, with John Borthwick, CEO of Betaworks, for an AMA discussion

About this event

Join Alan Patricof, the “Grandfather” and Pioneer of Venture Capital, in conversation with John Borthwick, CEO of Betaworks, for an AMA uncovering the lessons learned throughout Alan’s robust, fruitful personal life and career, from investing early in Apple to founding New York Magazine to running the New York marathon at age 87.

Now on his "Third Act," Primetime Partners, for the trillion-dollar aging sector, Alan plans to spend the next twenty-seven years (he says he will live until 114!) building the fund into a business with as much staying power as Apax or Greycroft. Rarely does an individual's career span the lifetime of an entire industry, and this conversation will dive into Alan’s time in venture capital, from the early days on Wall Street to now, and what it means to live life with no red lights.

About Alan Patricof

Alan Patricof is the co-founder and Chairperson of Primetime Partners. With a 50-plus year career in venture capital, Alan has been instrumental in growing the venture capital field from a base of high net-worth individuals to its position today with broad institutional backing, as well as playing a key role in the essential legislative initiatives that have guided its evolution. Alan founded Apax Partners, leading global private equity advisory firm, and co-founded Greycroft, a venture capital firm focusing on investments in the internet and mobile markets. He has helped build and foster the growth of numerous major global companies, including, among others, America Online, Office Depot, Cadence Systems, Cellular Communications, Inc., Apple Computer, FORE Systems, NTL, IntraLinks, Audible, Axios, and Wondery.

About Alan's Book

From the early days of Wall Street to founding New York Magazine, to investing in AOL, Venmo, and more, No Red Lights: Reflections on Life, 50 Years in Venture Capital, and Never Driving Alone offers a behind-the-scenes look at the past fifty years of the industry. A social and political staple in New York City, Alan Patricof spent his entire career combining the love of arts, politics, theater and public service without sacrificing family and business success. And, throughout his incredible career, Patricof never let anything stand in his way – driving with no red lights.

This memoir is a window into Patricof’s multifaceted life that spans the growth of an entire industry – a guidebook for younger people looking to start their entrepreneurial journey and for older people looking to write a new chapter in their lives.
