For a marketer, digital marketing is beating out many traditional outlets for four reasons: 1) lower barrier of entry 2) instant communications 3) analytics and 4) audience engagement. Getting started is easy and the costs are relatively low. Messages go out instantly rather than waiting for a media buy. You have the ability to know immediately if something is working or not. There is no A/B testing on a billboard. You don’t have to wait a month to see if the audience follows your print ad call-to-action before you can make tweaks for the next issue. And perhaps most importantly, digital is a way to engage with your audience. You can get their feedback, have a conversation. Marketing is no longer about pushing a message in someone’s face. It’s about telling a story.
Being a marketing professional is increasingly competitive and ever-evolving. Employers are increasingly demanding marketing professionals to participate in ongoing training to stay up-to-date with the digital landscape.
