Description

In this session, Dr. Gholdy Muhammad will engage teachers in unpacking culture. Together, culture will be explored and revisited in deep, multifaceted ways. We will discuss our own cultural identities and approaches to learning the cultures of students. By the end of this session, the teachers will understand culture and engage in a self-identity work. The facilitator will also introduce teachers to the model of culturally and historically responsive education. Teachers will learn the comprehensive history of CRE and the power of literacy among diverse communities in the United States. In addition, teachers will be able to understand the different manifestations of culture and how to create a classroom community of readers and writers that honors student diversity and social justice. Key principles will be introduced on how to frame equity-centered instruction. Finally, the facilitator will thread in the challenges and unique experiences of being an AP teacher throughout the session

If coming for the morning session, you can stay and work in the library if approved by your school.
